FAQs

What is the minimum costs associated with each cat NAPS takes in?
Total costs to care for cats we take into our facility are approximately $450 for a male cat and $550 for a female cat. This covers the cost of vaccines, spay/neuter, care & maintenance during stay as well as physical checks. Often the costs can be higher if the cat requires medication or injury care.
What payment methods are available?
All adoption fees can be accepted via cash, cheque or eTransfer.  The shelter does not currently have a debit machine due to a lack of internet.
What do adoption fees include?
For adult cats the adoption fee includes up to date vaccines (including Rabies), a completed spay or neuter & tattoo in addition to a de-worming sometime in the last 6-12 months.

For kittens the adoption fee includes the full cost of three kitten booster vaccines (4 weeks apart starting at 8 weeks of age), a Rabies vaccine (at the time of spay/neuter), de-worming at 5 weeks of age & the spay or neuter surgery when the kitten is 6 months of age.

All NAPS adoptions come with a 30 Day Health Guarantee. This means any illness attributed to an animals stay at the shelter (ex; ear mites, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, eye infection, weeping eyes/nose) that is detected within 30 days of adoption and is in need of veterinarian intervention will be fully covered by the society.

This guarantee only qualifies if the vet care is received at The Nanton Veterinary Clinic.  This guarantee does NOT cover newly discovered genetic issues, injury or illness not associated with an animals stay in the shelter setting.
How do I start the adoption process?
NAPS does adoption consultations by appointment only.  If you are interested in an animal you see on our website or our social media, please contact us via email ([email protected]) to make an appointment for an adoption consultation.
Can I adopt a cat for my barn?
Absolutely.  As long as the cat in question is suitable for that setting, and the adoptee assures us they will provide a warm/heated shelter in the winter, and kibble food and water year round, we are happy to adopt to barns, shops, etc.
All barn cats are adopted sterilized and tattooed without exception.

Strays, Ferals & Lost Pets

If I discover NAPS has possession of my animal after the legal stray hold, what can I do to get my animal back?
If the owner of an animal currently in our care would like to regain possession of their pet, naps is happy to reunite you, even if the legal holding period has expired. Owners must provide proof of ownership to claim their animal by appt only.
If the animal in question has received any veterinary care while in our possession, we may ask that the owner make a donation towards the veterinary costs.
