How do I adopt a cat from NAPS?

Start by viewing our available cats and submitting an adoption application. Our team reviews applications with the goal of finding the best possible match for both the cat and adopter.

Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption of a particular cat.

‍ Can I adopt a kitten that is too young to be spayed or neutered?

Our adoption process and veterinary care requirements depend on the kitten's age, health and individual circumstances. Our team will explain any outstanding veterinary requirements before an adoption is finalized.

‍ What should I do if I find kittens outside?

Please don't automatically assume the kittens have been abandoned. Their mother may be nearby finding food or waiting for people to leave.

Contact NAPS before moving the kittens unless they are in immediate danger. We can help determine the safest next step based on their age, condition and circumstances.

‍What if my cat has an unexpected litter?

Contact us as early as possible. NAPS may be able to provide guidance or assistance depending on available resources and the circumstances.

Kittens should remain with their mother until they are developmentally ready to leave her, generally no earlier than 8 weeks.

‍What is included in the adoption fee?

NAPS cats receive appropriate veterinary care before adoption, which may include spaying or neutering, vaccinations, deworming and microchipping, depending on the cat's age and individual needs.

‍ How long does it take a newly adopted cat to settle in?

Every cat is different. We encourage adopters to remember the 3-3-3 rule as a general guideline: approximately 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to begin learning the household routine, and 3 months to feel more fully at home

I need to surrender my cat. What should I do?

Please contact NAPS before bringing a cat to the shelter. Our ability to accept surrenders depends on available space, resources and the individual circumstances.

Never leave a cat unattended outside the shelter.

‍ I think NAPS has my cat. How do I reclaim them?

Contact the shelter as soon as possible. Our team will explain the reclaim process and what information may be required to establish ownership.
