Our Facility

Where We Are Now

After ten years of dedicated fundraising, our new shelter facility was finally completed, and we officially moved in December 2018!
We are now proudly located just south of the Nanton Veterinary Clinic, sharing a parking lot with them, at 2405 19th Avenue in Nanton. The new space has been a huge step forward. We now have running water, sterile, easy-to-clean surfaces, a spacious isolation room, and even our own washer and dryer—essentials that make a world of difference
in the care we provide. Here are a few snapshots from move-in day, capturing this exciting milestone in NAPS history.
Since moving into our new building in the winter of 2018, we’ve made several gradual but essential improvements to the space. One of the most exciting additions is a large outdoor catio, generously built by Ramshaw Excavating & Landscaping Services.
This extension significantly increases the usable space for our cats during the warmer months. The feline residents love soaking up the sunshine, watching birds and gophers, and enjoying the outdoors—all in a safe, secure environment. They have 24-hour access to the catio through an open window, except when temperatures drop below zero.
Generous NAPS supporter, Dean Youngren, also designed and installed a series of enrichment climbing shelves in both the main cat room & the Lynne Maynard Quiet Room, where kittens often reside.
This has greatly improved the quality of life for the felines in our care. Vertical square footage gives the cats much more space to spread out, take some alone time or snuggle up in groups on cozy ledges and catwalks. After all, cats do love to be up high.

Where We Started

For over 15 years, NAPS has served Nanton and the surrounding area with a mission to reduce the stray, feral, and homeless animal population in our community.

Each year, we provide food, shelter, and veterinary care to hundreds of animals—whether they’ve been surrendered by their owners, brought in by concerned citizens, or trapped through our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Program.
For many years, all of this vital work has taken place in a modest 600 sq ft space generously donated by local businessman Kin Leong.

While we were deeply grateful for the support, the facility had long been inadequate. With no running water, poor insulation, limited space to separate sick and healthy animals, and surfaces that were difficult to properly sterilize, the conditions made our work challenging.

Moving to a new facility was the obvious next step, and thanks to donors, fundraisers, corporate sponsors and grants, we were able to achieve that goal.
