STRAYS IN HOLDING - FELINE

Our primary mission is to reduce the stray and feral feline population within Nanton town limits through the use of our TNR Program (Trap, Neuter, Release). In late 2018 NAPS was awarded a grant from the the Town of Nanton to assist with these efforts, in addition to multiple donations from local service groups and charitable organizations.  The program will remain active as long as funding is available.

  • Trapping takes place by request from the public, and requests are completed in order of receipt as time and space are available.
  • Any tame felines trapped through the TNR Program will be listed below for the duration of their holding period. Once the holding period is up & veterinary care has been provided, their profile will be transferred to the "Adoptable Cats" page & they will be available for adoption.
  • Any feral felines trapped through the TNR Program will be listed below for the duration of their holding period. Once the holding period is up, they will be transferred to the Barn Cat Program or re-released at an approved feral colony feeding station after sterilization and tattooing.
  • We hold some feral felines (generally females) for up to 4 days from the date of intake.
  • Tame felines are held for 5-10 days from the date of intake.
  • Owners looking to claim a feline in our possession must contact us with proof of ownership and make an appointment for pick-up.
  • Felines that have gone unclaimed for the entire holding period will receive veterinary care such as sterilization, tattoo, vaccination and de-worming. If an owner comes forward after the veterinary care has been provided, and proof of ownership is confirmed, the society will ask that a flat rate of $50 plus donation towards the veterinary expenses be paid prior to the return of their animal.

STRAYS IN HOLDING - CANINE

NAPS currently does not have a holding area which can house at-large dogs found roaming within Nanton town limits.  When an area has been set up to house these dogs the following will apply:
  • Stray canines are held for a period of 10 days from their intake date. During this time, every effort is made on the societies part to locate an owner via social media, word of mouth & utilization of the animal bylaw officer and other rescue networks.
  • Owners looking to claim a canine in our possession must contact us with proof of ownership and make an appointment for pick-up.
  • Owners of claimed canines will be required to pay a boarding fee of $10 per day for each day the canine was in our possession within the holding period (for no more than 10 days). This fee helps cover the cost of food and care provided.
  • Once the holding period is up, the canine is given veterinary care, such as sterilization, tattoo, vaccinations and de-worming, and then transferred to the "Adoptable Dogs" page and placed in foster care.
  • If an owner comes forward after the holding period, they will be asked to make a donation towards the animals veterinary care plus a flat rate of $50 to cover boarding costs, which must be paid prior to the return of the animal.

NAPS is in accordance with all of the current bylaws as listed by the Animal Protection Act.
