VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Shelter Volunteer - Chore Shift
Our small, but busy facility requires multiple daily visits by volunteers to ensure everything is running smoothly, and kept clean and tidy. Shelter volunteers with chore shifts are responsible for scooping litter boxes, sterilizing litter boxes, washing dishes, topping up water and food bowls, sweeping/mopping, changing bedding and other general cleaning duties. A chore shift in either the AM or PM time slot will usually take 1 - 2 Hours.
AM is to be completed at the volunteers convenience anytime between 6am-1pm. PM is to be completed at the volunteers convenience anytime between 4pm-11pm.
New volunteers for these shifts will be trained to follow the shelters protocols, but will be performing these tasks alone during their shifts after training is complete. Once a volunteer commits to a day for which to complete their shift, that volunteer is expected to attend that shift each week. If a volunteer is unable to make a shift every once and a while, they are responsible for ensuring another volunteer can cover their shift. Not attending a shift without coverage or notice is not permitted.

Shelter Volunteer - Cuddle Shifts
Volunteers in the chore shift position know all too well that sometimes, the chore duties can take up all your free time at the shelter. We don't always have time to spend quality cuddle time with the shelter cats. That's where the cuddle shift comes in. If you are interested in volunteering, but cannot commit to a set schedule each week, or just really want to get your kitty fix, this shift is for you. There is no set schedule for this shift, and generally, volunteers show up at the shelter at random as they please. Operate the string, allow free access to your lap, dole out treats and affection freely! This shift is ideal for youth volunteers looking to make a difference. Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Shelter Maintenance Person
This volunteer would perform small labor jobs around the shelter, such as mowing the grass/cutting back weeds, winterizing or summarizing the air conditioners/windows, making small repairs, changing light bulbs, changing the furnace filter, and other odd handy jobs as needed. Expenses covered.
Fundraising Committee
NAPS organizes and participates in multiple fundraising efforts each year in order to gain public awareness, help raise funds for our cause, and of course to spread the word about our adoptable animals.
Events and fundraising projects such as these are time consuming, and involve ALOT of work from dedicated volunteers with a passion for event planning and helping animals! We are ALWAYS in need of energetic people willing to meet with the group to brainstorm new ideas, and implement those ideas in a professional and effective manner.
Are you skilled at public speaking, arts and crafts, making and distributing flyers, organizing and working events, or following directions? Have you got some great ideas in your head for raising community awareness or funds for NAPS? If so, you may be perfect for this position. NAPS is desperately in need of people to help in this area, with only a few people currently handling the work load, it can feel a little lonely at times! We feel NAPS can do better, and we NEED YOU to do it!
Not able to plan and implement large events, but still want to help?
We sometimes do markets and trade shows where we need people to sit at tables and answer questions or sell raffle tickets. Even if you can only take part occasionally, or would like your name on a list of contacts as a working volunteer that's helpful too!

Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) Program
This volunteer would be responsible for setting, monitoring and transporting animals and traps by taking the animal to the vet clinic, as needed by the general public. These scenarios often come up unexpectedly and there is no way to determine the time commitment involved, though flexible start and end times are possible. The volunteer will require their own transportation. Multiple volunteers can perform these tasks at one time in order to lessen the work load. Inquire for more details if you think you can help us tackle the stray and feral population in Nanton. Training provided.
